New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Located on the campus of New York's Lincoln Center, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts houses the world's most extensive collection of circulating, research and rare archival materials related to the performing arts. The renovation of this nearly 40-year-old facility, now known as the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center, has reconfigured its public and support spaces and introduced state-of-the-art technology throughout. The new Combined Research Reading Room fosters interdisciplinary research and facilitates faster and better retrieval of collection materials. The new Oenslager and Astor Galleries allow the display of the Library's diverse collections in dramatically improved, 24-hour climate controlled environments. The revamped 200-seat Bruno Walter Auditorium provides an intimate setting for live performances as well as digital multimedia presentations. A new centralized playback system allows high-speed delivery of the Library's vast audio and video collection to the reading rooms, galleries and auditorium. Consolidated stack areas enable efficient delivery of materials that include not only books but manuscripts, correspondence, sheet music, stage designs, press clippings, programs, posters and photographs. New environmental systems protect collections and improve staff and user comfort throughout the facility. |
