Stanford University The completely renovated Stanford Museum, an addition of 41,000 square feet of flexible galleries, classrooms, art storage, café, bookstore and special events room, and a series of outdoor sculpture courts and gardens comprise this new fine arts complex. The project reconciles a late 19th-century fragment and a late 20th-century intervention in a dynamic composition, which consciously departs from the rigid symmetry of the original building but shares relationships of scale, proportion, rhythm and materials. Responding to current patterns of campus circulation and anticipated uses, the new ensemble creates a new campus precinct and promotes the Museum's expanded educational mission by enhancing the link between the educational and arts communities.
