North Shore/Long Island Jewish Health
System Inpatient care has been consolidated in a new 215,000 square-foot facility for this renowned psychiatric teaching hospital. Two distinct buildings with loggias define an inner courtyard. Goals for the project were to insure patient comfort and privacy in an efficent, non-threatening environment. In scale and detailing, the buildings are residential in character, utilizing brick, glass, and clapboard-like cladding as primary materials. The Ambulatory Care Pavillion consolidates various existing outpatient programs into three day-hospitals, each with a distinct entrance. The Child and Adolescent Day Hospital includes offices, interview, group therapy, examination and quiet rooms as well as a fully accredited grade school. The Geriatric Day Hospital includes a generous waiting area with glass-enclosed balconies overlooking the lobby, as well as offices, examination and group therapy rooms, a lunchroom and kitchen. The Adult Day Hospital shares a half-gymnasium with the Child and Adolescent Day Hospital, and a large computer room and reading room with the Adult Rehabilitation program. The Inpatient Building will house semi-private and private patient rooms serving adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, as well as a medical isolation room and staff offices. The building will include a large activity and dining area with an exterior porch for patient use. A central core will house group therapy, consultation and examination space. With a unique staggered plan, patient rooms will be angled to create a "front porch" for each room without sacrificing patient privacy. Significant landscaped activity spaces reinforce the restful environment. Go to the Zucker Hillside Hospital Website |
